Our first major production of 2026 will be Blue Remembered Hills by Dennis Potter, to be directed by Fleur Hebditch. The play will be performed at York Theatre Royal Studio, for 11 performances, including two Saturday matinees, from Tuesday 18 to Saturday 28 February 2026.
To introduce the production, we are hosting a launch reading of the play upstairs at the Royal Oak pub on Tuesday 4 November from 7pm. This event does not form any part of the audition process. It’s a chance to find out about the play, to hear some of Fleur’s plans for the show and to ask any questions you may have.
Blue Remembered Hills started out as a BBC Play for Today in January 1979. It features a group of seven-year-olds one summer afternoon in 1943 playing in the Forest of Dean. The seven children – John, Peter, Willie, Raymond, Angela, Audrey and Donald are played by adults. The original TV cast included Colin Welland, John Bird and Helen Mirren (see photo above with Janine Duvitski).
